Alpe’s Genepy “Herbetet” is named after Herbetet Peak of the mountain Grand Paradiso, located in the Graian Alps between the Aosta Valley and Piedmont.
At these high elevations, the famous / infamous / fantastical / questionably hallucinogenic herb, Genepy aka Génépi aka Artemisia aka wormwood grows in abundance, providing Alpe’s herbal liqueur with its categorical name, classic flavor and color. Note: Genepy is also often used when speaking generally about a liqueur produced from a variety of alpine herbs, including, but not always, wormwood.
In addition to wormwood, Alpe’s Genepy also infuses oregano, mint and cinnamon, among other ingredients, into the grain-based alcohol. This herbal dram is balanced by 200g sugar/L and clocks in at 49% abv.
At this atypically higher proof, Alpe’s Genepy Herbetet is perfect when served as a digestif and works EFFORTLESSLY in cocktails.
Recipe and Botanicals
Genepy is the flagship of Alpe distillery, leader in the production of this fine and elegant liqueur. Genepy is a traditional liqueur from the Alps mountains, produced respecting artisan techniques, to brew and distill rare and selected mountain herbs of the Artemisia genus (Artemisia Spicata and Artemisia Mutellina). These unique herbs, commonly known as Genepy, only grow at an altitude of 6,500 ft along the length of the Alpine range on the morainal soil that the glaciers uncover during their summer thaw.
Star-bright gold with underlying hues of green; clear, light with medium viscosity.
Intense and balsamic, particularly persistent, with resinous notes of pine buds and a floral hint of edelweiss, it results in a simultaneously elegant and strong impression.
Balsamic with resinous and herbaceous notes which impart a spicy mouth/eel and structure, balanced with sweet mountain honey tones. Culminates with a delightfully intense and aromatic persistence.
