Tepemete
This rarity is the first Zacatecan Tepemete mezcal to be exported out of Mexico. The piñas of the Tepemete maguey are exceptionally small compared to other species. This lack of size coupled with its scarcity has caused Tepemete to be moslty overlooked in favor of higher yielding varities. The Bañuelos family have painstakingly revived the artisanal method of crafting mezcal from this wild agave. They are a fourth generation taberna(distillery) located in the southernmost part of Zacatecas and are leading the resurgence of mezcal production in their state.
